Whilst it is common for players to struggle, there are other stories from professionals who have used this time to come back stronger. We sat with Tyrone Mings who stated:
“I went into a very dark place in my injury, the first 3 or 4 months I had no interest in rehab, I was probably depressed. My whole life had been geared toward playing in the Premier League and when that’s taken away from you what is there to fall back on or support you? One of the most important things I learnt was the importance of having a well rounded life. Friends, family, hobbies, career away from football. You have to place your happiness on things other than football. Now, injuries don’t affect me in the same way. I don’t let myself get down from football. I’ve got good friends and family, a great football academy, a start up that’s a football app, the interior design stuff going strength to strength. Football is still my number one focus but if there’s a negative or a setback then all of my happiness isn’t placed in football.”
